MOVEMENT.

HAYLEY ADAMS

a re-emerging dance maker

Building creative exchange and connecting people through art in (extra)ordinary ways. My movement and performance grows from issue-based concepts and has play and ritual at its heart. It is my wish that everybody has the possibility for self-expression through contemporary dance.

About Me.

Hayley Adams (1983),  originally from Bristol, United Kingdom, has called Amsterdam her creative home for nearly 10 years. After starting a family in 2018, Hayley is a re-emerging independent dance maker. She creates contemporary dance works that educate, engage and challenge in (extra)ordinary ways.

Hayley was selected for One Dance UK's Dance Teacher Mentor Programme in 2014. She received a Post-Graduate Certificate at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London UK in 2008-09. She studied a BA (Honours) in English Literature and Dance from University of Chester, UK in 2005.

Choreographic work began with Fall/ Fail to Recover at Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2017. The 30 minute solo explored issues around Body Focussed Repetitive Behaviours with modern dance, spoken word and sequins. Her new work My Body is Not My Own will draw on her experience of site-specific work with a strong visual. Hayley’s choregraphy uses game and ritual as a basis for concept and always has a theatrical twist.

Performance experience includes multiple works with Sanne Clifford & Co across The Netherlands and Northern Italy. Venues include De Brakke Grond, CC Amstel and Cafe Theater Festival in Utrecht. In the UK, Hayley worked with international choreographer Willi Dorner with 'Bodies in Urban Spaces', interdisciplinary Kompany Malakhi and The Movement Collective in Bristol. Venues include O2 Academy Bristol, Bristol Harbourside Festival and Bonnie Bird Theater, London.

In Amsterdam, teaching work has brought Hayley to The British School of Amsterdam, 5 o’clock class at the Theaterschool, and Grey Vibes. Teaching now focuses on teenagers and adults. Highlights from Hayley’s vast experience in the UK include teaching everybody aged 2 - 101 years old, dance with puppets, in unusual spaces like Libraries and shopping centres, and in Conservatoires, Universities and Schools around the SouthWest and United Kingdom.

Choreographic Workshop

Recapturing moments of past or current days (depending on how old you are), participants are challenged to seek their inner child using play in the studio. Chance methods inform movement combinations which dictates that each final performance piece will be different from the last.

Based on Contemporary pioneers Laban and Limon’s principles, this workshop explores each title prompt through technique phrases, improvisation challenges and choreography combinations. Participants are guided to find their own flow and freedom in the studio.

Related to Hayley’s research into Body-Focussed Repetitive Behaviours, this workshop investigates how stress can be felt in daily life.. This workshop offers a safe space to explore how we get stuck in our habits, and how to break them.

Using your creative prompts, Hayley can devise a workshop or course to suit your needs. Let your creativity be energised through her calm, curious approach to teaching.
